The Fallen Spotlight

The Fallen

by Alicia Sparks

Start the Soulbound Series with Book 1
When Genesis Martinez went into Lake Ponchartrain and died, her nightmare was just beginning. Resurrected and soulless, she falls victim to wandering souls seeking a body. Cassius Ramirez went into the Lake sixty years ago and knows he died, but when he woke up in the morgue, everything has changed. Something is killing people in New Orleans, and Cass knows he’s responsible. But when he meets Gen, he knows he will do anything to protect her. Cass isn’t the only man who feels a connection to Gen, and when his brother Craven catches her scent, all bets are off.

Detective Brick Parker has seen a lot of things in his years with New Orleans Police, but he's never seen anything quite like what's happening now. Bodies torn to shreds, brains missing, creatures roaming the night, victims with human teeth marks in their flesh. Worse of all, his partner, Jules, has been throwing around a Z word usually reserved for late night horror movies.

As creatures roam the streets of New Orleans, Gen's very existence is on the line. She's unleashed a creature unlike any other and now she may have to pay the ultimate price. There's a cure, but it may cost her even more than her soul.

**Content Warning: May contain explicit content and scenes. Intended for 18+ Audience.**

Gen tried not to flinch when he touched her but everything about this situation was setting off alarms in her head. Not to mention what it was doing to her stomach, creating little flip-flops that were making her nauseated. As much as she wanted to pull away from him, his touch was soothing, which in itself should have been enough to send her running. And her tough girl attitude, the one that had saved her so many times and was currently fueled by her Metallica t-shirt, could only take her so far.
She found herself mesmerized by the steady movements of his hands and the gentle way he cleaned then wrapped her arm. His fingers were rough but instead of chafing her skin, the calloused surfaces made her want to purr with delight. Something was definitely wrong with her. Genesis Martinez did not react like this to men, even ones who were built like action heroes with silver eyes that looked entirely other-worldly. His pupils seemed to appear and disappear as he touched her, as if the contact was having an effect on him too. He wore his hair and beard close cropped, neat, no frills, 100% man with definite Hispanic blood in his veins.
He was definitely built like a boxer, with wide shoulders, narrow hips, and thighs that fit very nicely into his jeans. His dark t-shirt hugged against his chest, outlining the proof of hours spent in the gym. He had haunted the few dreams she’d managed to have between ten pm and three am last night, his smile an intoxicating blend of sin and salvation. The man in the flesh was both calming and powerful, a paradox of danger and safety, the kind of man who could really get a girl into all the right kinds of trouble. But Gen already had a working relationship with trouble, and she didn’t need the kind that would come with smoldering eyes and sensual lips.
But the thing inside her wouldn’t let her trust him, didn’t want him to be close. It was almost as if it knew him and was warning her against him. Of course that made sense. The body was in his gym, and the chances that he was the reason for that were pretty solid. Still, he had so much to lose if he were a killer, which would probably explain why the body was so well hidden.
His boxing career was on fire right now, and the odds of him winning his match tonight were very high. The bets had been coming in for a couple of weeks, but the past twenty four hours had seen an influx, enough to pay her rent for a couple of months and have plenty left over. Her business as an online bookie depended on guys like him, but she never imagined she’d be sitting here letting him wrap up an old wound that had popped open in last night’s scuffle.
There was something about him that was extremely familiar, and it went beyond the fact that she could spout off all his stats for the past two years. It was as if she knew him, and not the Cash Money side of him but the man whose hands were making her stomach churn. He looked down at her arm, concentrating on every movement, touching her so gently it made her want to scream at him. When he finally looked up at her, his pupils had disappeared and were just now coming back into view.
It was there, right on the tip of her tongue. She wanted to ask him a question that defied logic, but instead she swallowed it. Do you believe in life after death?
“There,” he announced. “I think that should hold.”
“Yeah.” She pulled her arm away as quickly as possible and slid her sleeve back over it. “Thanks.”
“You look a million miles away. You okay?”
“Just focusing on the pain,” she lied.
“Hmmm.” He leaned back in his chair, his eyes focused on her, making her feel very self-conscious. It felt as if he were looking straight into her, seeing things she never showed anyone. “Sometimes it takes pain to get you through, huh?” It wasn’t a question but a statement, as if he understood exactly what she meant.
“Yeah. Whatever. Thanks.” She stood and tucked the first aid kit under her arm.
“Wait.” She had almost made her escape when his deep timbre stopped her.
Turning slowly, she realized her hands had been gripping the first aid kit to the point of causing numbness in her fingertips. “Yeah?” Her voice was softer than she would’ve liked, and she cleared her throat and set her jaw, steeling herself for whatever he said next.
“You never said what you were doing here.” His long legs made him seem predatory as he walked across the room, his eyes never leaving her face. He made her nervous but at the same time, the sensation was a welcome one. It had been a long time since she’d been touched so gently by someone who she knew could tear her apart if he wanted to.
“Guess I was wrong,” she shrugged. “No. I think you were looking for something.”
For the third time in recent history, she found herself trapped between a man and a wall. Only this time, she wasn’t afraid. She was practically tingling with wanting, wishing he would reach out and touch her again. The way his eyes flashed, she wondered if he could feel it, too. The predatory look on his face should’ve frightened her, but there was something there so familiar she couldn’t bring herself to be afraid.

I took the offered hand and nearly swooned. Swooned. Who the hell swoons? I stood up and followed him through the mostly empty club as the staff was sweeping and pushing tables around. He didn’t let go of my hand as we wound through the tables to the door stage right.
This time, the little bitch in my head slapped me. I was being led backstage by the man I had a severe fangirl crush on, and we were going out for food and a chat. I almost dropped my cider at the realization. I was walking backstage with Nick D. I realized I had an obligation to women everywhere at that moment--and I fulfilled it.
I dropped my eyes and I gazed upon the most gorgeous denim-clad backside I had ever seen. He walked just enough to press those firm globes into the denim and release them a moment later with the next stride. The cloth hugged him, and it was one of the most delicious sights I’d ever seen in my life. Squeezable Tush. I wondered if I could bottle it.
“Enjoying the view?” he asked.
My eyes shot up to his, where he was peeking over his shoulder at me about to push the door open. Fire rushed into my cheeks. Let’s see, I had proved I was graceless, easily flustered, worked at a BDSM club, and had absolutely no stealth to even grab a glimpse of the World’s Most Fantastic Backside. I’d probably dump the soup down the front of my shirt.
His eyes sparkled mischievously, though, as he looked at me. I took a chance. “Hmm. It could be a little better. Could you just turn to the right a little?” He laughed, and obliged me.
Oh, it was a perfect ass.

Fissure Free Release Day!!!!

Author Shari J Ryan reunites the colorful cast of friends and family in Book 2 of the Schasm Series with a powerful tribute to the power of the mind and heart in this romantic, suspenseful, and engaging novel.

After nineteen years of suffering with a psychological condition, ethereal Chloe had finally come close to finding her ultimate escape—or, so she thinks on the vibrant streets of Paris.
Finally in a relationship with Alex, a man she fell in love with in Schasm, Chloe thinks life is finally coming together. As she battles her own demons, she attempts to repair the damaged man she’s grown to love. But as his clouded past abruptly crashes into their lives and falls heavily upon their budding romance, Chloe must fight to maintain her relationship.

Although even when the problems begin to subside, she comes to realize certain things cannot be escaped. Franco, her disillusioned, serial-killing uncle has taken up residency in Chloe and Alex’s life. In search for an item that belongs to Chloe, Franco will deceive, connive and conquer until he finds what he is after—that is, unless, Chloe finds a way to beat him at his own game.

Just as Chloe believes she might have sealed the doors of darkness once and for all, new questions, new findings and new inceptions arise. Whether or not Chloe wants to continue forward with the path her life seems to be leading, she quickly learns that any choice she makes will ultimately land her in a place she never knew she was destined to be.

My heart quakes against my sternum. My stomach feels like stone, and my throat is clenching in on itself. I walk to the other bar covered window, completely horrified. I curl my fingers around the damp, ice-cold bars, and I pull myself up, pressing my face against the metal to look out.
The hallway is just as dark and abandoned as this room. The walls are painted a sea green. They’re cracked and peeling, and old rusty handcuffs hang from chains that line the wall. I peer down the other end of the hall, somewhat curious and somewhat petrified as to what I might see. The words “help me” are smeared along the wall in what looks to be blood.
Against my desire, I take in every detail of this deserted passageway, hoping to gain insight on where we might be. But I’m lost and dumfounded. An abandoned institution is the best I can come up with.
Sounds of footsteps arise from the depths of the barren walls, and the dissonance increases with each footstep, warning me that someone is coming. The hallway only has two directions and I don’t see anyone in either.
I’m going crazy.
I could only hope.
The footsteps stop, as does the beating of my heart. I close my eyes and pull in a deep lungful. But I inhale someone else’s warm, stale breath. My eyes snap open, and two large bulging brown eyes stare back at me. My chest caves in. My lungs struggle to move, and I fall backwards.

Stepping out of the official cruiser, hand resting lightly on his weapon which was holstered at his hip, Kade walked to the open driver’s side window. Looking into the car, he saw her. She was bent over the steering wheel, her long chestnut colored hair pulled back with a clip. “Ma’am, is everything all right?” She turned her head and his breath caught in his throat. A beautiful face, streaked with tears squeezed his heart. Without thinking, he abandoned all of his years of training. Without concern for his own safety, he yanked open the door. Squatting down beside the car and balancing on the balls of his feet, Kade spoke to her. “Sweetheart, what’s wrong? Are you hurt? Did you have an accident?” Turning her head instead of raising it, Krista looked into the greenest eyes she’d ever seen. They were filled with concern. For her? No, she thought, they can’t be. He didn’t even know her. “What did you say? What accident?” Sitting up, she tried to answer and the whole ordeal came back into her mind full force. The nausea hit and this time it wasn’t going to pass. She was going to be sick. “Oh, no!” she exclaimed, just before she covered her mouth with one hand and scrambled to get out of the car, knocking him out of her way. As she ran around the car, Krista made it to the grassy right-of-way just as she began heaving. Her whole body was shaking. The weakness brought her to her knees. When she finally finished, she scooted back against the back car tire, drew up her knees which were now throbbing with pain, and laid her head down on them. “It never affected me this fast before,” Krista murmured to the big man as he knelt down beside her. Her eyes swept over him. Oh, crap! He was a cop! She was so not up for this. With a sigh of resignation, she held out her wrists, waiting for him to put the handcuffs on and arrest her. Kade looked at her outreached arms and then at her pale face. Too pale. “What are you doing?” “Aren’t you going to arrest me?” “Why would I do that?” he questioned, confused. “Well, because I kinda’ knocked you on your booty and you’re a cop. Isn’t that like assault on a police officer or something?” Her voice was weak and she sounded resigned. “Booty?” He smirked. “No, I’m not going to arrest you.

Uncensorred Passion Release Blitz!!

Book one in the Men of Passion Series: A contemporary erotic series about the passions and devotion of five men to the one woman who loves them all...

Kayla Saradon is a beautiful, respected psychiatrist who her friends claim has discovered the fountain of youth. Kayla wonders what her friends would say if they knew her secret is the polyandry lifestyle she shares with her four, studly "husbands" — each skilled in his own sexual specialty?

Then PI, Trey Sean Cameron, who is secretly investigating her lifestyle, explodes into her life. The ex-Army Special Forces operative raises emotions Kayla can neither control nor contain. Can Trey — a demanding and possessive lover — ever share in her lifestyle? If not, how far will she go to keep him?

Pretending to be a reporter getting the inside scoop on Dr. Kayla Saradon’s life was turning out to be very enjoyable for Trey. They had finished the meal. Kayla declined dessert, so Trey ordered coffees, reluctant for their time together to end and sure it would when they left the restaurant.
They had settled into a silence that Trey was unsure how to break. He was thankful when Kayla took the initiative.
“Why don’t we continue the interview in your room, Devon? We could talk more privately there.”
He was both surprised and pleased as he met those extraordinary green eyes.
“That would be perfect. I would have suggested that, but I didn’t know what you would think. I wouldn’t want to compromise your—ah—reputation.”
Kayla laughed. “I don’t care what people say, Devon. I deal in truths, not innuendoes or rumors, and I have no patience with those who cater to that kind of subtle slander.”
Damn, she’s a woman after my own heart! “Good to know.”
He paid the check and they left the dining area. Kayla excused herself briefly in the lobby, walking away to make a quick phone call before rejoining him at the elevator.
Once in his room, Kayla immediately kicked off her shoes. She curled comfortably on the two-seater couch while Trey watched in utter fascination.
“Now, why don't you sit down beside me and get comfortable, as well, and let’s really talk,” she suggested, patting the place next to her.
Trey sat down but was far from feeling comfortable. Having her this close, he couldn’t help but visualize her on the bed, naked and inviting. He hoped his thoughts, growing warmer by the minute as he inhaled her enticing flowery perfume, wouldn’t become an embarrassment he couldn’t hide.
“I take it you had the proverbial perfect childhood, Kayla. All the luxuries, the right schools and so forth?”
“It wasn’t perfect by any means. But yes, I did have the opportunity for the best education. So it was probably better than a lot of others. My parents expected me to do well in school, and I did because I didn’t want to disappoint them. And actually I always strove for academic perfection for my own sake, as well, because I wanted to accomplish things and knew the proper education was the way to do that.”
Trey inwardly flinched, remembering those years when he had determinedly stayed in school, regardless of his hand-me-down clothes and the way some of the kids made fun of him in his younger years and then later, regardless of the times he had to go with his back and butt raw and sore from a beating. He had, however, managed to live through it and get that diploma that he, too, had felt was important, before he left to join the army.
“Tell me about your parents,” he said, to cover up his own bitter memory flashes.
“They were very socially conscious and expected me to be ever aware of how my actions reflected on our good name. If I could fault them for anything, it might be their overzealous desire for me to walk a social-acceptance line. That’s hard to do when you really want to ‘run with the bulls,’ if you know what I mean. But I was a dutiful daughter.
“I believe I read that they were killed in a car accident.”
“That’s right. Right after I graduated from university. You know, Devon, I’ve noticed that you aren’t taking notes. Do you have a photographic memory, by any chance?
Trey silently cursed his lack of judgment and decided to add yet another lie to the pile. “Yes, I do.”
“How interesting. We share that trait and I know that, at times, it becomes a nuisance, doesn’t it?”
Add to the pile! “So you are blessed, or maybe I should say cursed, the same way? And yes, it does sometimes.”
“From experience I know that those of us with photographic memories usually have total recall, yet in some instances not. So, tell me, do you recall every detail of practically everything said to you?”
God, it’s getting deep. “Not really. I’ve learned to block some things out, as I’m sure you have. But I assure you I will recall your every word, Kayla,” he said it in a soft, inviting tone that he hoped said more than just those words. He held her eyes as he smiled. She returned the smile and for a minute, they didn’t speak. There was no need for words. That electric current was vibrating between them again.      Feeling drawn to her, overwhelmed by her nearness, Trey leaned toward her, his eyes holding fast on those inviting, luscious lips. Simultaneously, she leaned toward him and their lips touched, lightly at first. Then he pulled her closer, deepening the kiss, his tongue seeking hers, delving into her open and receptive mouth.
When their lips parted, he expected her to pull away, but she didn’t. He stood, pulling her up, and melded her against his rock-hard shaft wedged against her yielding body.
“I know this is unprofessional, but damn, Kayla, I want you.”
“I can tell,” she said bluntly, her green eyes alight with a mischievous gleam as her hand reached to touch him, to fondle and explore his turgid length.
“My heavens, you’re impressive.” she chuckled.
“God! You know what you’re doing to me? But since I’m not sure what I’m doing to you, I guess the ball is in your hands,” he said as he kissed her again, hungrily and imploringly.
Trey could feel her trembling, with what he hoped was desire as they parted.      “You could write a very revealing story about me if I gave in to what I really wanted to do right now. You don’t write exposés, do you, Devon?”
“Story be damned! This is a private time, between the two of us and nobody else,” he assured her.
“So what happens from here on is off the record?”
“Absolutely.”

1. GOODBYE FOR NOW
Rose stood in the bedroom doorway, shoulder propped against the door frame, thumbs tucked into the pockets of her low-rise Levis. She cocked her head, watching Greg’s backside moving back and forth like an overactive piston.
Had it always been that hairy?
She cleared her throat. “I guess you’re busy,” she said, “maybe I should pop back later.”
The piston halted and Greg practically threw himself off his bed partner as if she were an unwanted hot potato. “Fuck! Rose! Fuck!”
“Yeah, I can see that,” Rose said.
“What are you…I mean, when did you-”
“Get here?” she glanced casually at her wristwatch. “About five minutes ago.”
She noticed him surreptitiously pull the bedspread up to cover his crotch.  “What are you doing here?” he asked.
“I thought I’d surprise you.” She pushed herself off the door frame sauntering into the room. “I guess I succeeded.”
A petite five foot four, with the elfin doe-eyed features of a Manga sketch topped with long golden hair, Rose didn’t look like a threat. In fact, she was pretty certain that she would have been cast as the lead in any production of ‘Legally Blonde’ on looks alone, but the tussled brunette, frozen on the bed, saw something in Rose’s sapphire gaze that galvanized her into action. She shot off the bed making a grab for a pair of lacy red underwear on the floor.
“Sit!” Rose said.
The brunette froze, her fingers mere inches from the lacy garment that would cover her Brazilian-waxed bits.  Yeah, Rose wished she’d missed that bit.
Rose smiled, but it didn't reach her eyes. “Please don’t leave on my account. This won’t take more than a minute.”  She strode casually to the bedside cabinet on the brunette’s side of the bed, and felt her shrink away.  Ignoring her she began to rummage inside.
Greg pulled on his boxers. “What are you doing?”
“Getting my stuff.” She pulled out a couple of paperbacks, her overnight cosmetics bag and her hardback copy of ‘The Kama Sutra’. It felt tacky and sticky.  Rose cracked it open and frowned. “You got spunk stains on my book.” She threw the book onto the bed wiping her hands on her jeans.  She shoved the rest of her stuff into her backpack, which lay on the floor by the bedside table. Swinging the pack onto her shoulder she headed for the door.  She felt Greg behind her, his breath hot on the nape of her neck.
“What, so that’s it? You’re just gonna leave?” He made a grab for her shoulder and she shrugged him off.
“Threesomes are really not my thing,” she said and carried on down the hallway.  She needed to get out of here quick before…
“This is all your fault you know!”
She paused, hand on the banister. Now this she had to hear.  She turned to face him.
He had his arms crossed across his broad chest, tanned and speckled with dark hair. She had loved lying on that chest. Her eyes traveled up to settle on his face.  He wore his favourite expression– smug.  “Enlighten me.”
He shrugged, “If you’d put out more often this would never have happened. A man has needs you know, and you’re always busy-”
And then he was on the floor clutching his nose.  Rose blinked staring at her fist, feeling the anger, which had erupted so suddenly, dissipate.  The roaring in her ears subsided and she heard Greg whimper.
“Wha…Wha ya do tha fa?”
Some questions don’t deserve a response.
Rose turned on her heel and walked away.
